Last spring, in small and big ways, I began to invite people in. One of the most profound ways was in opening up my home for creative gatherings, and not just for close friends, but to new acquaintances who might not know me well at all. It's changed how I physically exists in my life, in my home, in my literal sanctuary. And when women choose to show up here, they are truly seen. And in turn, so am I. "Fearless"... "Be Yourself"... some of the gorgeous messages they come with, for me.
So much of building my creative life has been about taking virtual connections and manifesting them in real time. Always, one of the biggest struggles I hear that people have is meeting kindreds who actually live near them. It's not easy. It's not only about the logistics of how and when, it takes a huge amount of trust and letting go to simply open your doors and say... come, to whoever might need this kind of soul infusion. But every single time I do, it's magic, and people travel from near and far.
It was hard at first, worrying about people seeing my cobwebs and the physical imperfections of a living home... the clutter barely contained, the paint job that needs to be re-done, the weeds around my front steps. But I realized pretty quickly that these little faults were not what was on display. People arrive with huge gracious hearts, just happy to be together.
There's space to make beautiful things, an abundance of lovely food to share, and the kind of talk that opens each of us up a little wider. Flowers and candles and cards always find their way to the table, and there is an ease and letting go that happens every single time.
Yesterday, five of us gathered and no one knew each other coming in.... five of us left as friends at the end of a joyful day. I never know who might show up, and I have to have faith that things will come together just as they should. They always do. And so this is my work, my life, my gift and blessing all in one. It feels like the best kind of alchemy, bringing gorgeous souls together and igniting sparks of love and happiness.
There is something about having people in my home that feels different than other gatherings in public spaces or events. People aren't paying for a product, they are choosing to step into the circle because that is what their heart is longing for. I truly admire and understand what this takes and what it means.
For me, it's intimate and deeply personal. It's changed the way I exist in this world, in my own kitchen, on this island. It has created a way I can offer up my gratitude, a way I can honor the light in others who inspire and support me so. This practice has grounded me deeply into my life and grown up around me like spring flowers.
I am so grateful for the abundance of brave hearts and so much love! xo
